Privacy Policy for SafeAura
Last updated: 27 September 2026
SafeAura ("the App", "we", "us", or "our") is a parental-control and content-blocking application for Android (package name safeaura.domain.blocker). This Privacy Policy explains what information the App accesses, how it is used, and the choices you have.
By installing and using SafeAura, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Summary (the short version)
- SafeAura performs its blocking on your device. Your blocklist, blocked apps and parent PIN are stored locally on the device only.
- We (the developer) do not run our own servers and do not collect, store, sell, or share your personal data, browsing history, or DNS queries.
- The App uses Google Firebase only to receive push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging) and to download ad settings (Cloud Firestore). No blocklists, schedules, PINs or browsing data are sent to Firebase.
- Block schedules are stored and run on your device using Android alarms.
- The App shows advertisements through Google AdMob, which collects certain data as described below and in Google's own privacy policy.
- The App uses a local VPN solely to filter DNS requests and block selected apps. It is not a remote/proxy VPN and does not send your traffic to us.
1. Information the App accesses
a) Data stored locally on your device
The following is created and stored only on your device (using the device's local storage / secure storage) and is never transmitted to us:
- Blocklist – the website domains you choose to block.
- Blocked apps – the list of apps you choose to block.
- Block schedules – the days and times you set for blocking to turn on and off automatically.
- Parent PIN – used to protect settings and controls. It is stored locally and is not sent anywhere.
- App preferences – such as your selected theme (light/dark) and language.
You can delete all of this data at any time by clearing the App's data or uninstalling it.
b) Installed-app detection
To offer the "Block social apps" feature, the App checks whether specific, well-known social-media apps are installed on the device (for example Instagram, YouTube, WhatsApp). This check happens on the device, is limited to a fixed list of known package names, and the result is not transmitted to us or any third party.
c) DNS and network filtering (local VPN)
SafeAura uses Android's VpnService to run a local, on-device filter:
- DNS requests are inspected on the device. Requests for domains on your blocklist are blocked locally (answered with a null address). Requests for allowed domains are forwarded to public DNS resolvers (Google Public DNS – 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4) so normal browsing continues to work.
- For apps you choose to hard-block, that app's network traffic is dropped on the device.
The App does not record, store, or transmit your browsing history or DNS queries to us. The local VPN does not route your web traffic through any server operated by us. Please note that DNS requests for allowed domains are handled by Google Public DNS and are subject to Google's privacy practices.
d) App block scheduler
The scheduler lets you choose the days and times when blocking turns on and off automatically. To
switch blocking on and off at exactly the time you chose, even when the device is idle, the App uses
Android's exact alarm feature (SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM). After a restart,
the App re-arms these alarms (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED). Schedules are stored and run
only on your device. They are not sent to us or to any third party. The App
does not use alarms to track you or to collect any information.
2. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The App displays banner and interstitial ads using Google AdMob. Whether ads are shown and which ad units are used is controlled by settings the App downloads from Firebase (see Section 3). To serve ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect and process information such as:
- Advertising identifier (Android Advertising ID / App Set ID)
- Device information (device model, operating system, coarse/approximate location derived from IP, language)
- Ad interaction and performance data
This data is collected by Google, not by us, and is governed by Google's policies:
- How Google uses information: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
- Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
You can limit ad personalization by adjusting Settings → Google → Ads on your device (for example "Delete advertising ID" or "Opt out of Ads Personalization").
3. Google Firebase (push notifications and ad configuration)
The App uses two Google Firebase services. We do not use Firebase Analytics or Crashlytics, and we do not create user accounts.
a) Firebase Cloud Messaging (push notifications)
- The App uses Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to receive push notifications from us, such as app updates, new features and announcements.
- To deliver these notifications, Firebase creates a random messaging token and a Firebase installation ID for your copy of the App. These identifiers are not linked to your name, email, phone number or any other personal information.
- The App subscribes to one general topic that all users receive. We do not send targeted notifications to individual users, and we do not store your token on our own servers.
- On Android 13 and newer, the App asks for your permission before showing notifications. You can turn notifications off at any time in Settings → Apps → SafeAura → Notifications.
b) Cloud Firestore (ad configuration)
- The App downloads a small settings file from Cloud Firestore that controls advertising: whether ads are shown and which AdMob ad units to use.
- These settings are fetched at most once a day and cached on your device. The download is read-only. The App does not upload your blocklist, blocked apps, schedules, PIN, browsing history or any other personal data to Firestore.
As with any internet request, Google receives technical information such as your IP address and basic device and app information when the App connects to Firebase. Google processes this data on our behalf as a service provider. For details, see:
- Privacy and security in Firebase: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
- Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
4. Permissions the App requests
| Permission | Why it is used |
|---|---|
VPN service (BIND_VPN_SERVICE) |
To run the on-device DNS/app filter that performs blocking |
| Foreground service | To keep protection running reliably while enabled |
| Post notifications | To show the ongoing "protection is on" notification required by Android, and to show push notifications (app updates and announcements) |
Schedule exact alarms (SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM) |
To turn blocking on and off at exactly the times you set in the App block scheduler |
Run at startup (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) |
To re-arm your block schedules after the device restarts |
| Internet / network state | For DNS forwarding, loading advertisements, receiving push notifications and downloading ad settings |
Package visibility (<queries>) |
To detect which of a fixed set of social apps are installed |
The App does not request access to your contacts, camera, microphone, photos, precise location, SMS, or call logs.
5. Data sharing
We do not sell or rent your information. Information is shared only in these limited ways, which are inherent to how the App works:
- Google AdMob – for showing advertisements (see Section 2).
- Google Firebase – for push notifications and downloading ad settings (see Section 3).
- Public DNS (Google Public DNS) – allowed DNS requests are forwarded to resolve domains so browsing works.
We do not share any data with any other third party.
6. Children's privacy
SafeAura is a parental-control tool intended to be installed and configured by a parent or guardian. It is not directed at children to create accounts or submit personal information, and it does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The App does not require an account or any sign-in. Advertising is provided by Google AdMob; where the App is used on a child's device, the parent/guardian remains responsible for the device's ad and privacy settings.
7. Data retention
All data the App creates (blocklist, blocked apps, block schedules, PIN, preferences) stays on your device until you remove it. Clearing the App's data or uninstalling the App permanently removes this information from the device.
8. Your choices and rights
- Turn off blocking at any time from within the App (protected by the parent PIN).
- Delete your data by clearing the App's storage or uninstalling it.
- Control ad personalization via your device's Google Ads settings.
- Turn off push notifications in your device's notification settings.
- Revoke exact-alarm access in Settings → Apps → Special app access → Alarms & reminders. Scheduled blocking may then not start or stop on time.
9. Security
Your data remains on your device. The parent PIN is stored using the device's secure storage. However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this document. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
